Getting Rich a lesson on schoology

Homework assignment that I've given my AP Statistics class after day 1:

Now that I have your attention, hello and welcome to AP Statistics.  I'm so excited that you've decided to embark on this learning journey with me!  This year I will do my best to inspire you to learn, challenge you to push yourself, and help you to navigate the content of our course.  Hopefully you will have some "ah ha" moments, some moments of frustration before breaking through to understanding, some moments that inspire you to learn more, and above all, at least SOME fun!  Finally, I hope to help you learn the material that you need to in order to be successful on the AP Test on May 13, 2015.

Your assignment before you come to class next is 2 parts.

Part 1:

Before we approach the content of our class, we need to spend a little time investigating how you learn best.  You may have noticed that different people process information differently and learn differently.  Some people learn by watching a step-by-step demonstration and repeating that process over and over again.  A psychologist and professor from Harvard named Dr. Howard Gardner developed a theory of Multiple Intelligences that will help you in assessing your own learning.  Take this quick quiz here then read about the multiple intelligences here.  Copy down the bar graph of results so that you can record them in class next time.  Respond to DQ#1.  Include what your highest intelligence score was and what your lowest score was and what impact this information can have on your learning.

Part 2:

Statistics is a course that has ALOT of new vocabulary.  You must learn the vocab and you must use it correctly to communicate about how the math is modeling a situation.  To help you with learning the vocabulary, I have created a flash card set at Brainscape.  To access it, go to Brainscape and create an account.  You can download the app to use to study the vocabulary if you have an ipad or iphone but if you have android, like me, you will have to use a pc or chromebook.  The first 18 cards of our course can be found here.  When you review each card, try to create a picture in your mind of the definition and attach it to each word.  Respond to DQ#2.

Happy learning and I'll see you in class!
